Out Of Town Surgery Patients

Information for patients outside of the San Francisco Bay Area

With the modern world's easy accessibility to the internet, we are seeing a significant and steady increase of patients from out of town, state, or even out of the country. Therefore, we have made specific arrangements to make the experience smooth, comfortable and easy for those traveling to The Pacific Clinic for treatment.

If you come from out of town:

A town car chauffeured by a trusted and professional driver can pick you up at San Francisco International of Oakland International Airport. He can drive you to your hotel where you can settle in. For the duration of your stay, he can drive you in comfort to our clinic for all your appointments, including for surgery and for suture removals. After your stay in San Francisco, he can be at your disposal to drive you back to the airport for your departure.

*Please, if you want this service-which we have used for a decade, call (415) 713-4542 (S.F. ClassicLimo.com) and make your arrangements (airport, arrival, flight number, date, etc.) They are competitively priced cordial and efficient and are familiar with our operation (we have no financial interest in this company.)

You can stay in any of the excellent hotels in San Francisco; we can offer recommendations and assistance in arranging your schedule. We have nurses that are available to accompany you to the hotel, and visit you as often as you desire. These professional health aides are independent contractors and their fees are paid separately and directly to them.

Information needed prior to surgery

We will need the following sent to us at least one month prior to the surgery date:
  • Photographs (front view, right and left profiles). These can be taken digitally and emailed. Photographs are extremely important and we will happily discuss the requirements with you over the phone.
  • Blood tests, mailed or faxed by your physician. We need a SMA 12, CBC, Hep C, and a brief note stating that you are in good health for surgery.
  • In case of other concerns (disease, diabetes, etc.) we also need appropriate tests.
  • For those patients over 50, we need an electrocardiogram done within the last 30 days.
Office contacts and information sources

If you are interested in surgery, and you do not live in the San Francisco Bay Area, please call our Patient Care Coordinator to discuss your options (USA 415-202-1507). After your initial call, and after receipt of the required documents and photos, Dr. Ristow will discuss a course of action with you over the telephone.

Thereafter, you may schedule your cosmetic surgery. Our Head Nurse will be happy to answer any pre- and post-operative inquiries you may have. Our professional staff is well informed and capable of answering any of your questions, although they may also address some specialized inquiries to Dr. Ristow or the Anesthesiologist on your behalf.

Recommended length of stay in San Francisco after surgery

The recommended length of stay in San Francisco for a facelift (for example) is between four and six days. Frequently all sutures are removed in six days, but later sutures, if used, can easily be removed after approximately 10 days by a local nurse, or even a spouse. Dr. Ristow frequently will use deeply placed biodegradable stitches.
